Getting started

What is Ron?

Ron is the calm budget companion for your personal money — and your business. It surfaces the one thing worth noticing each month in plain language, scans receipts in seconds, and keeps Schedule C business expenses tax-ready. Ron is available on iPhone and on the web at heyron.app, with Android coming soon.

How do I create an account?

Sign up on the web at heyron.app or in the app with your email and a password. We'll send a verification link — click it to activate your account, then sign in. Verifying your email is required before you can sign in.

I didn't get my verification email.

Check your spam folder first. On the sign-in or sign-up screen, use Resend verification email to get a fresh link. If it still doesn't arrive, email support@heyron.app.

Do my phone and the web stay in sync?

Yes. Ron uses one account across iPhone and web — your transactions, businesses, categories, and settings sync automatically. Capture on your phone; do the heavier lifting (import, reports) on the web.

Adding transactions & scanning receipts

How do I add a transaction?

Tap the + button (mobile) or Add (web). Enter the amount, a description, and pick a category — or scan a receipt and let Ron fill it in.

How does receipt scanning work?

Tap + and choose Scan (camera), Photo (pick an image from your library), or File (import an image or PDF). Ron reads the merchant, date, and total automatically and drafts the transaction for you to confirm.

The scan got a detail wrong.

Just edit any field before saving. You can also tap any transaction later to correct it. Ron remembers the categories you choose and gets better over time.

How many receipt scans do I get?

Free accounts include 10 receipt scans per calendar month. Ron Pro includes unlimited scans.

Importing transactions (web)

Can I import from my bank, PayPal, or a spreadsheet?

Yes — on the web, go to Import. Ron reads CSV/spreadsheet exports from PayPal, Stripe, eBay, Amazon, and most banks, plus a filled-in batch template. Pick your source (or leave it on Auto-detect), choose the file, and click Preview to review everything before it's added. Importing is a Ron Pro feature.

Can I import a bank or credit-card statement PDF?

Yes. Upload a statement PDF and Ron reads it with AI, pulling out each transaction (date, description, amount, and whether it's money in or out). It takes a few seconds per statement, and you review everything in the preview before confirming — nothing is added automatically.

Can I import several months (or files) at once?

Yes. On the Import page, select multiple files at once (⌘/Ctrl-click). Each file previews in its own section and imports as its own batch, so you can undo any single statement later without touching the others.

How do I leave out rows I don't want?

After Preview, every row has an Include checkbox — untick anything you don't want. Rows Ron couldn't read are skipped automatically. The count on the import button updates to match, then you confirm.

Can I undo an import?

Yes. The Recent imports list on the Import page has an Undo button for each import, for 24 hours. Undo removes exactly that import's transactions — nothing else.

Ron didn't recognize my file, or the columns look wrong.

Every provider formats exports differently and changes them over time. In the preview, use Columns look wrong? Map them manually to tell Ron which columns are Date, Amount, and Description. That handles any layout, even a brand-new one. Ron always shows a preview first, so a format quirk never silently imports bad data.

Why do some imported amounts look duplicated?

Two common causes, both handled automatically: PayPal exports include a funding line for every payment (Ron removes those), and Amazon Business exports repeat an item once per payment method (Ron collapses those into one). If a preview still looks off, Ron flags it with a warning before you import.

Transfers & avoiding double-counting

What is a “Transfer”?

A transfer is money moving between your own accounts — funding PayPal, paying a credit-card bill, or moving money account-to-account. It isn't spending, so Ron keeps it as a record but excludes it from spending totals and Schedule C so it isn't counted twice.

I import my bank AND my PayPal/credit-card statements — won't things double-count?

No. The real spending is on the itemized PayPal/card statements. On a bank statement, the lines that just fund those (e.g. “Paypal Inst Xfer”, a credit-card payment) are auto-flagged as transfers on import and left out of your spending totals, so each expense is counted once. Ron tells you which rows it flagged and why.

How do I mark something as a transfer (or un-mark it)?

Open any transaction and toggle This is a transfer, or select several in the Ledger and use the ⇄ Transfer button. Transfers show a ⇄ Transfer badge and are excluded from your dashboard total (you'll see a note like “N transfers excluded”).

Organizing your ledger (web)

How do I categorize a lot of transactions quickly?

In the Ledger, set Sort to Description: A → Z so identical merchants group together. Click Select, tick a run of rows, and set the category or tag them to a business — all at once. The category picker is split into Personal and Business so it's easy to pick the right one.

Can I sort or search the ledger?

Yes. Use the Sort dropdown (newest, oldest, amount high/low, description A→Z, or by category) and the search box (description, note, or tag). Sorting and the Personal/Business/All filter work together.

Can I delete or re-tag many transactions at once?

Yes — click Select in the Ledger, choose rows, then set Personal/Business, set a category, mark as transfer, or delete the whole selection in one step.

Personal, business & Schedule C

What is the Personal / Business / All filter?

Ron keeps personal and business spending cleanly separated. Tag any expense to a business to keep your Schedule C deductions organized so tax time isn't a scramble.

How do I add a business?

On the web go to Businesses; on mobile go to Settings. Add a business, and it appears as a choice next to “Personal” when you add a transaction. Business & Schedule C tracking is a Ron Pro feature.

Is Ron tax advice?

No. Ron helps you organize your money and prepare information for tax time, but it is not financial, accounting, or tax advice. Schedule C line mappings are common defaults — confirm final placement with a qualified accountant or your tax software.

Ron Pro & billing

What's included in Ron Pro?

Unlimited receipt scanning, business & Schedule C tracking, bulk import (CSV, spreadsheet, and AI-read statement PDFs), and Ask Ron — a calm assistant that answers questions about your own numbers. All synced across web and mobile.

How much does Ron Pro cost?

$5/month or $49/year (save $11). Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial.

How do I upgrade?

On the web, go to Account, choose Monthly or Annual, and start your 14-day free trial. Ron Pro is managed on the web at heyron.app — the mobile app doesn't sell subscriptions, but once you're Pro, every feature unlocks in the app automatically.

Will I be charged during the free trial?

No. Your card isn't charged for the first 14 days. Cancel any time before the trial ends and you won't be billed.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?

Go to Account → Manage subscription. That opens the secure Stripe billing portal where you can update your card, switch plans, or cancel. If you cancel, your Pro access continues through the end of the period you've paid for.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. Billing is handled entirely by Stripe. Ron never sees or stores your card details.

Why can't I buy Ron Pro inside the iPhone app?

Ron Pro is a subscription for our web-and-mobile service, sold and managed on our website. Subscribe on heyron.app and your Pro features unlock in the app right away.

Your account

How do I reset my password?

On the sign-in page, click Forgot password? and follow the link we email you.

How do I change my currency?

Go to Settings → Currency. Ron displays every amount in the currency you choose, so you can use it anywhere in the world.

Can I lock the app?

On iPhone, enable Biometric app lock in Settings to protect Ron behind Face ID or Touch ID.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Settings → Delete account — this permanently removes your account and all of your data, immediately. If you signed up on the web only, email support@heyron.app and we'll delete it for you.

Privacy & data

Is my financial data private?

Yes. Your data is yours. Receipts are stored privately, and we never sell your data or use it for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.

Which third parties does Ron use?

Anthropic (Claude reads receipt images and statement PDFs to extract transactions, and powers “Ask Ron”), Cloudflare R2 (private receipt storage), Stripe (subscription billing), and Resend (email). They process data only to make Ron work — never for advertising.
